Job/Internship Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Audiology Intern receives training on assessments, diagnosis, evaluation, screening, habilitation, and activities related to client management, under the direction of the Director of Audiology. The Audiology Intern has graduated with a terminal degree (Masters/or equivalent) and is now prepared to work in the clinical setting for a period of approximately one year under the direction of a certified (ASHA) audiologist while pursuing a doctorate.

Schedule: Per diem, 40 hours/wk

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Under the direction of the Director of Audiology, receives training with assessments, diagnosis, evaluation, screening, habilitation, and activities related to client management.
  • Observes ASHA certified audiologists, reads from textbooks and practices techniques to perform and interpret diagnostic audiological evaluations and tests, perform hearing aid evaluations, fittings and counseling, and how to create plans to provide aural rehabilitation.
  • Learns and then performs audiologic and vestibular assessment of adults and children.
  • Assists with fitting hearing aids and ear mold impressions.
  • Maintains documentation and reports associated with these activities.
  • May assist in data collection activities.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Master's degree in Audiology or 3 years completion of accredited academic AuD program in Audiology; equivalent of Master's Degree in Audiology.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Letter of recommendation required. Eligibility for MA Audiology license.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to instill confidence and to advocate for patients and their family.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm towards learning.
  • An organized work style and ability to keep clear written documentation.
  • Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information
